Chesterton Legacy started their second season in the Tucker Gardner Premiership despite finishing bottom last season and not suffering relegation. There was several changes at the club with Danny Smith taking over as manager from Andy Burns and Shane Rackham coming in as number 2. Danny Smith could possibly have become the youngest manager in English football? Legacy would be starting the new season with an away game in Hertfordshire based Kingsleys who had gone unbeaten in their first season in the Tucker Gardner Championship. Sound familiar?

Chesterton Legacy started the game with just 3 survivors from our first game of last season against Ellesmere Eagles with one of the those survivors Andy Burns having to play in goal in place of regular goalkeeper Ricky Timms who was stranded on the south coast! The conditions in Barkway were windy and with the pitch having a slope Legacy decided to play with the wind and down the slope in the first half hoping to put the opposition defence under pressure. Kingsleys though soon stamped their authority on the game with their counter attacking football against the wind and the slope plus the fact half of the team were the size of rugby players and they soon found themselves 2-0 up. Legacy were hoping to keep the score down to 2-0 at half time and still keep the game alive but after some suicidal defending found themselves 4-0 down at half time.

Player/Manager Danny Smith who put himself on the bench had the most important managerial teamtalk of his career at half-time. His inspirational words of "i am better then half of you lot" was not the kind of words the boys needed to hear at half-time. He sent the team back out for the second half with Legacy facing the impossible challenge of trying to get something out of the game. The second half started just like the first half ended with the team discipline and shape allover the place allowing the Kingsleys attackers to stroll through the legacy team from kick off like they wasn't even there. Though there was some confusing as goalkeeper Andy Burns hadn't even been given enough time to put his gloves on. Kingsley soon added a few more goals to find themselves 8-0 up. Off come Carlos to be replaced by Paul Evans. Oli Brittain was then introduced in the second half but after putting his body and soul on the line for Legacy he was on the receiving end of a boot to the face and was replaced by Danny Smith who added some fresh legs to the centre of midfield. Kingsleys soon found themselves 10-0 but Legacy who showed better attacking promise in the second half got themselves on the scoresheet thanks to Zimbabwe live wire Prince Murandu whose crossed was deflected in.

The final score ended with Legacy slumping to a 12-1 hammering by newly promoted Kingsley. Gaffer Danny Smith must be hoping he will soon be able to call upon the services on first teamers Ricky Timms, Shane Rackham and Marvin Beckett as the fixtures dont get any easier with an away trip to last seasons champions West End.
