About Us
The current Legacy set-up under James Burns started in the 2007/2008 season. There is more history on the club, including different names and managers. But that's all in the past and can be found on the link to our old website.
The team was in dire straights when James took over, the season before the team had maintained its CDFL Division 1 status by the skin of its teeth after the manager resigned after the first game. Paul Evans stepped up and ran the team until the end of the season and done a grand job keeping the team going. But he wanted to play, not manage. So James (Pru), took it over in 2007/08.
That season we struggled for players on a weekly basis. We had around 6 or 7 regulars and had to keep swapping the rest of the players around. It finished badly and we ended up 2nd bottom. We were in a relegation position, but because of teams dropping out and new ones entering, the league offered us the chance to stay in Division 1. We felt we weren't good enough through the seasons performances and decided we should go down to Division 2 as our league standing warranted.
2008/2009 season saw us bring in more new players, some players who were regulars the season before left and we had a new team all over. Pre-season wasn't the best and it looked as if we were going to struggle again. But we had a fantastic season and won the league comfortably and we won the league cup for our division as well which was a fantastic day at Soham for players and everyone involved with the club.
We had a backroom shuffle as people left the team at the end of the season, which brought us to where we are now. The backroom team can be seen below. Obviously we had gained promotion, but we wanted to change the direction of the team.
A vote was held by all the current players at the time, as well as the Committee. Chesterton Legacy were now leaving the Cambridge and District Friendly League. After a sucessfull interview process "Legacy" were voted in by the Alliance league board members to join the "Alliance League Division 2" for the season 2009/2010. More new players were bought in, along with a Sponsor and a new strip.
The 09/10 season was another season of success under the stewardship of Pru, Legacy won the Alliance League Division 2 with a record 16 wins from 16 games, they also made it to a cup semi-final going out to a formidable West End United side.
At the start of the 10/11 season Pru Burns decided to call it a day following 2 seasons of unprecedented success. He wanted to spend more time with his family, not wanting to see the club fold his brother Andy Burns took up the reigns and will lead the side into Division 1 for what will be their toughest season yet. Some changes were made at committee level to accomodate this and the new management structure will be doing everything they can to make sure that the team stay competitive in Division 1 next season.
